Finding your first NHS post as an IMG
Most IMGs start in a non-training NHS post — trust-grade SHO, clinical fellow or locum appointment for service (LAS). These jobs are advertised on NHS Jobs and trust websites, need GMC registration to start, and typically take 6–12 weeks from application to first shift.

3. Interview and offer

Common failure points
- Applying before GMC registration is granted — most trusts filter unregistered applications out.
- Applying only to teaching hospitals; district general trusts often have faster IMG onboarding.
