Bringing dependants on a UK doctor visa
Health and Care Worker visa holders can bring a partner and children under 18 as dependants. UKVI expects proof of the relationship, a maintenance figure per dependant (unless the sponsor certifies), and evidence for any child not travelling with both parents. Dependants can usually work and study in the UK, and their visas last the same length as the main applicant's.
Who this applies to
- IMGs planning to move to the UK with a partner or children.
Key requirements
| Eligible dependants | Partner + children under 18 |
|---|---|
| Maintenance | Set amount per dependant, or sponsor certification |
| Work / study | Dependants can work and study in the UK |
Steps
1. Assemble relationship evidence
Marriage certificate, cohabitation evidence (2+ years for unmarried partners), birth certificates for children.
2. Meet the maintenance requirement
Either the trust certifies maintenance on the CoS, or show the required funds held for 28 days.
3. Apply for each dependant separately
Each dependant needs their own online application and biometrics.
Common failure points
- Missing consent letters for a child travelling without both parents.
- Funds moved between accounts inside the 28-day window.
